Sometimes you take a picture and the first time you see it printed out or on the screen you say, “I’ve seen something like that before.” Maybe from an album cover, a movie or a coffee table book. Shakespeare said there were only so many stories in the human experience, they just keep getting retold. These images are a retelling of a story that’s always been there.

Just outside are things you should maybe notice on your way to work, to drop off the kids, walking the dog. It’s a beautiful, magical world God gave us. Images of that world are just outside the door.

Don’t go somewhere new and just see the things everybody sees there. Bring home your own pieces of the place. Pieces that are just yours, and that make the place just yours. I will always remember the places where these images became mine.

This group of images are all taken on or near the water – along the Pacific Coast Highway or at a lake in North Texas. There is something primitive about water, evoking our greatest pleasures and darkest fears. It is a part of everything in our world, the cradle of our very lives.
